School Education Act: A pathway to reform school education and nation

Government School Teachers are in protest in Kathmandu with the demand of new School Education Act. Current School education is running under School Education Act 2028 and after the new constitution, the has been a need of new School Education Act as per the constitution ad time to address the current need of school education to compete with the open world.

Currently there are about 23000 government schools and more than 116,000 teachers as per the annual report of Ministry of Education, Science and Technology’s Annual Education Statistics Report (2078 BS / 2021 AD). But out of this data, there are 18 various categories of Teachers and staffs in schools with different contracts and facilities.

Similarly, there is increasing contribution of private schools in the school level education of Nepal. The number of private schools, students and teachers in them is increasing regularly. There are normal to premium priced private schools. This has led to different school education within the same curriculum of the government.

As per Nepal Constitution 2072, the high school level education is the sole responsibility of local government. Due to lack of Federal School Education Act, the local levels have been regulating school education in their own way which has created contradiction and confusion among each others.
